Petco 101: How to Save on Pet Products

If you’re like me, my family includes a few feathered/furry friends (okay, more than a few….more like EIGHT!) Couponing and saving money for these babies is completely possible. I’ve found my place of choice…..Petco (Where the Pets Go!). The only drawback: it can be kinda pricey (as in I kinda would like to win the lotto.) But luckily with a couple coupons here, some awesome rewards there, and a few hidden gems, you can absolutely save.

So here are the ins and outs on how to save at Petco.

Coupon Policy:

• Accepts Manufacturer coupon
• Accepts Internet printable coupons
• Will price match competitor prices
• They offer weekly deals that run from Sunday to Saturday, and they have a weekly circular.

Rewards Card (PALS):

• Sign up in store or on-line!
• For every ten bags of dog/cat food you purchase in a 12 month period (same brand and size), you will earn a free bag! This is especially helpful to those of us who have a “few” pets.
• You can accumulate points each quarter for either a 10% or 15% coupon which can be used on your entire purchase (like the new bird condo my Cockatiels are getting!). You earn 10 points for every dollar spent. Collect 1000 points for a 10% off coupon and 2000 points for 15% off. Quick, let’s do the math together. To earn 10% off….1000 pts/10 pts= $100 bucks over a 3 month period. Not too unrealistic!
• Grooming Club: I wash my own pups at home. But if you prefer to send Fido to the groomer’s, they offer a free service after your 8th visit. Who doesn’t love free?!

Surveys

• Check the bottom of your receipt for a possible survey. Once you complete this over the phone, you’ll get a code that entitles you to a $2.00 off a minimum $5.00 purchase coupon. Score! (Just be careful, they have expiration dates. I let one expire once…oh, the horror!)
• You can use this on top of any manufacturer coupons you have. Double score!
• I’ve learned that even though the survey says “call within X hours” you can still call a day past the deadline to receive a code.

More, you say?

• The website has a special coupon section (are you giddy yet?) that shows all specials, coupons, and discount codes that are available both on-line and in-store. Before making my trip out, I check this section for any additional savings to be had. Click here to check it out.
• Pet Birthday Club: sign up your furry friends and receive special discounts and coupons during your baby’s birthday month. I once received a voucher for a free pound of dog treats at their dog treat bar! My pups absolutely loved it!
• If you’re an on-line shopper, they offer discounts on repeat
